"In order to qualify for unemployment benefits, you should be actively seeking employment," said Hutchinson, a republican lawmaker.
Senator Hutchinson said funding for the test would come from the Department of Labor's budget.
"Hopefully it would save money because you would have more people encouraged to pass those tests, and they would gain employment," said Senator Hutchinson.
Bobby Robinson, a truck driver for nearly 20 years, said a slow-down in the market has driven him to apply for benefits. Robinson said job seekers actively seeking employment should be drug-free.
"Well they should be ready. There are more companies ...more than ever doing drug testing," said Robinson.
