The City says Walmart has requested that the Neighborhood Market issue at Grand Street and Campbell Avenue be remanded back to the Planning and Zoning Commission to consider some design changes.

The issue will be on the January 24 Planning and Zoning Commission agenda.

In December, the Planning & Zoning board voiced major concern about a residential area along Normal Street, which would have been used for an entry way into the grocer's parking lot. The changes include installing concrete islands on Normal to keep cars from entering the grocery from that street.

"Walmart is not locally owned, and I don't care how much money they spend or how many people they hire, the bulk of the money goes to Bentonville, Arkansas and not Springfield, Missouri," said property owner Jim Lee.

There are no national chains based in Spfld. So what's your point? I know several people that work there and many more who own their stock. It is a good solid company and their stores benefit the community. Just remember how badly we were getting ripped off by retailers before they came to town. They forced Walgreens and CVS to make major reductions in the price of prescriptions, too.
