SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Salvation Army is gearing up for a very busy weekend as it gathers food, toys and money for the holiday season.

Right now, volunteers are sorting toys that have been donated at various Walmart and Kmart stores.

Then on Saturday, the Campbell 16 theater will offer free admission to anyone who donates five cans of food.

The Salvation Army will use that food for less fortunate families and it's asking for extra volunteers this weekend.

"The Salvation Army only is here because of volunteers," says Major Norman Grainger. "So when the food comes here we'll need volunteers to sort that into boxes."

The Salvation Army set a goal of raising $1 million during the annual holiday season fundraising drive.

Major Grainger says so far the agency has raised 25 percent.
