SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The holiday season officially kicks off in
Springfield this evening, with the launch of this year's Festival of
Lights.
It's a 6-week celebration of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hannukah and Kwanzaa and begins with the lighting of the Mayor's Christmas Tree. That ceremony is today, Saturday, November 17 at 5 p.m. in Jordan Valley Park.
After the tree lighting, there will be free fireworks at Hammons Field and free ice skating at Mediacom Ice Park from 5:30 - 6:30 pm.
But it's just the beginning of weeks of special events, including theatrical productions, concerts, arts and crafts events, holiday home tours, and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
