Nixon Nominates Former Senate Leader to State School Board

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Former Senate Leader Charlie Shields has been nominated to the Missouri School Board.
Gov. Jay Nixon nominated Shields, a former state senator and representative, to the board. His appointment is subject to confirmation by the State Senate. His term on the school board would end in 2020.
Shields is currently the chief operating officer of Truman Medical Center - Lakewood in the Kansas City area.
Shields started out in the Missouri House in 1991. From 2009 to 2011, Shields served as President Pro Tem of the Senate. During his time in the senate, Shields sponsored legislation that eventually became the current school foundation funding formula.
