REPUBLIC, Mo. -- Investigators say a fire in western Greene County Tuesday, that scorched about 160 acres near the Lawrence County line, started accidentally.
Greene County Sheriff's Department Captain Jim Farrell says the fire in the 1900 block of S. Farm Road 29 apparently started from the sun's rays beaming through a piece of glass.
In a news release, Farrell says investigators found two pieces of glass stuck together, which apparently caused a magnifying effect, and caused the dry grass to catch fire.
The overly dry conditions and low humidity contributed to the conditions.
Negligence and foul play have been ruled out as the cause. No one was injured in the fire, which was quickly contained and put out.
