GREENE COUNTY
, Mo.
-- Multiple fire departments have contained a massive brush fire near the Greene and Lawrence County line. Over the last hour, it consumed more than 160 acres.

Some homes were even evacuated near the corn field at Farm Roads 152 and 29 -- just south of I-44 between Republic and Bois D'Arc.

The fire was first reported just after 4 p.m. about three miles west of Halltown. Dark smoke could be seen for several miles, especially along I-44 near the 60 mile marker.

Emergency management officials, along with crews from Republic, West Republic, Brookline and Bois D'Arc, were asked to assist.

No traffic had to be diverted along I-44. MoDOT posted signs for oncoming traffic.
