The long-running parody of dogs chasing postal workers isn't so funny in one Springfield neighborhood.  Problems with some local canines are preventing neighbors from getting their mail.

This is an ongoing program dating as far back as 2001.  Mail carriers around Parkview High School have been warning some dog owners to better control their pets.

Last week the post office on south Campbell notified nearly forty households that mail would no longer be delivered to their door step.  And it's primarily because of a house where postal employees say they've repeatedly been threatened by the occupant's dogs.

Last year the post office cancelled delivery to that home, but carriers claim the threats continue.  Now people on several streets in the area have until May 3RD

to move their mailbox to the curb.

"Frankly, they were very cooperative.  They tried to prevent this from happening, but unfortunately it's continued to happen.  We've actually had four incidences including one last week when we've had four different carriers that have been chased." says Greg Switzer, Post Office Customer Service.

Regardless, neighbors are going to have to shell out the money for a new mailbox if they want service to resume at their home.

As far as Springfield’s vicious dog ordinance, Cox has received summonses in response to her dogs.  However, unless the animal actually attacks or seriously threatens someone, there's little more the city can do.
