(Jefferson City, MO)--Gov. Jay Nixon's inbox is filling up as thousands of Missourians weigh in on legislation waiting his action that would allow a religious exemption for Missouri employers who claim a religious objection to some women's health care services.

Nixon's office has received over 5,000 messages regarding the bill that was passed by Missouri lawmakers near the end of legislative session which states that employers and health care providers cannot be compelled to cover abortion, contraception and sterilization services that conflict with their religious or moral beliefs.

Supporters of the measure contend the legislation is about protecting religious freedom, while opponents contend it would block coverage for contraceptive care for women.

The Governor has until July 14th to sign, veto, or allow the bill to go into law without signature. In previous years, Nixon has allowed legislation dealing with women's health care to go into law.
