(Jefferson City, MO) -- Governor Jay Nixon says his record on the economy is good enough to run on this November.

Speaking to reporters after addressing the State Democratic Convention, Gov. Nixon says the state's economy is starting to turn around.

"When you look at the trend lines, they've clearly turned, they're headed in a much more positive direction. I'm not saying we're done. We've still got a lot of work to do, but clearly, the trends are heading in the right direction."

Speaking at the state Democratic Party Convention, Gov. Nixon says Missourians have a "can-do" spirit.

"When Missourians are asked to help their fellow man, they're very generous with their time, energy, resources, and as Chief Executive of the state, it's inspiring to see not just the command and control part of that, but how folks stay calm, and how they respond well."

Gov. Nixon delivered the key-note address to the convention. He faces only token competition in the August primary before the November general election against either Republicans Dave Spence or Bill Randles.
