(Springfield, MO) -- Nature and art are blending in Springfield, all in celebration of the completion of the Fassnight Park Waterway/Stormwater Improvement Project.

An educational mural, designed and painted by OTC student Karesee Wilkey, decorates the Campbell Avenue underpass.

The aim of the entire project is to reduce flooding and improve water quality.

"[Shows] the pollution we do in our everyday lives that we don't even realize," says Wilkey.

It's possible by the cooperation of parks, stormwater engineers and the Greene County Park Improvement Tax.

The new art work blends with the historic nature of the park.

"The park's 88 years old and the rock work you see in here is very reminiscent of what you would have seen back in 1924," says Parks Director Bob Belote.

The project comes with a $5 million price tag. Similar work happened at Sequiota and Doling Parks.
