"It seems like the big game was just a few weeks ago," says Rob Evans, "but it's already time to start football at the Y. Julie Kinney joins me this morning with details."
"Spring is fast-approaching," says Kinney. "We have football and soccer starting at the Y. Football is starting April 2nd, soccer starts March 31st, we have several different days for that.
Saturday for pre-k, then Tuesdays and Thursdays. We start at kingergarden and go through fifth grade for football, and we have had girls play football throughout the years.
"If you are a member, it's $30 or $65 for non-members. We have financial aid program, we don't turn away anyone. We teach character education in all of our sports, it's something that makes us different at the Y.
As for the ages? "For flag football," she explains, "the divisions are K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th, teams are coed and game days are on Monday. For outdoor soccer the divisions are PreK, and their game days are on Saturday, Kindergarten boys and their game days are on Tuesday, Kindergarten girls and their game days are on Thursday."
"Tell us why sports at the Y are different from other programs?" asks Rob.
"We promote equal playing time. The Y develops the person, not just the athlete. Also promotes sportsmanship and team work over winning. We focus on Youth Development. The kids also receive a great looking jersey and are placed on teams. Each kid gets to play 7 games."
Parents should visit their local Y or visit orymca.org for more information.
