If you're in the market for a new home, now's a great time to start the search. A slump in the housing market means you can find a good deal on a nice home. And one house in Nixa could be the best deal of them all.
The Nixa couple tried to sell their home twice before the conventional way with no luck. Now they're trying something different, very different and they hope it's an offer you can't refuse.
"As far as we know, it hasn't been done in
A 4,500 square foot all brick home for the low price of $100 will surely grab attention.
"The high school raffles a car for project graduation and we thought; what a good idea. Why can't we do that? But, you can't raffle an item unless it’s for non-profit. That's against the law. So we hired an attorney, researched it and decided to do it as a contest," says Carpenter.
Tessi and Richard Carpenter plan to give their 8-year-old home away to the lucky winner of a writing contest. The $100 is the entry fee. All they ask is that you submit a creative essay and the writer of the winning entry will get the four bedroom, three and a half bath house with full basement along with an above-ground pool, barn and the nearly four acres it sets on. And if that's not a good enough deal for you, the Carpenters will also pay your closing costs and your 2007 property taxes.
"We don't have to show it, we don't have to wait for the right person. It gives us a chance to be pro-active and search for our buyers. But at the same time more than just selling our house, it lets us be a blessing to somebody else," says Carpenter
With one daughter in college, the Carpenters say the house is just too big now. They want to build a smaller dream home. To enter, you can go to their website, download the entry form, send in your essay and the $100 and if you're feeling lucky, start packing. The contest ends June 1st. If they don't get enough entries, everyone gets their money back.
