Trial Underway in Death of Child

Testimony begins today in the trial of a man from Springfield, accused of killing his girlfriend's 18- month old son.
Joseph Haslett (left) is charged with the October 2005 death of Gavin Jordan.
A jury was chosen in Springfield Monday. Opening statements and first prosecution witnesses are scheduled today.
Investigators claim the toddler had been in a bathtub at a home on Springfield's north side, but an autopsy never determined a definitive cause of death.
The baby's mother, Jennifer Harvey, is charged with child endangerment. Prosecutors claim Harvey knew her son was being abused by Haslett, but left the child in his care anyway.
The trial is expected to last 2 or 3 days at the Greene County Judicial Center.
