(Jefferson City, MO) -- Calling out wasteful inefficiencies in the Pentagon, Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill is looking to cut $3 billion from the armed services budget.
The Senate sub-committee on military readiness, which McCaskill chairs, approved the cuts earlier this week following several public hearings. Many of the cuts concern the military's system for handing out contracts.
"There are a lot of inefficiencies in the Pentagon," the Democratic lawmaker said during her weekly conference call to reporters. "They're a lot of duplications in the Pentagon. There is a massive amount of contracting that's going on, many times without competitive bids where we are not getting the best value for our dollar."
The budget cuts now head to the armed services committee for approval.
