Springfield a Host City for Tour of Missouri

Springfield is among several Missouri cities that will play host to a professional cycling race later this year, organizers announced Thursday.
The Tour of Missouri, pattered after the Tour de France, will be held September 11-16. More than 120 professional racing cyclists will travel more than 600 miles across the state, stopping in Kansas City, Clinton, Springfield, Branson, Lebanon, Columbia, Jefferson City, St. Charles, and St. Louis.
"The Tour of Missouri is an exciting way to showcase the beauty of our state," said Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder. "I believe this race will capture the imagination of the entire State of Missouri. The race will create the potential for millions of additional tourism dollars being pumped into the local economy's of Missouri cities as well as our smaller rural communities."
The race will be in Springfield, Wednesday, September 12, then travel to Branson the following day for individual time trials. September 14, the race begins in Lebanon and goes north to Columbia.
The cross-state race ends in St. Louis, Sunday, September 16. In the shadows of the arch, the race will have gone through more than 20 counties, 50 towns and cities, and covered about 600 miles. For more information, visit the race website.
