Missouri Raises Minimum Wage

Workers earning minimum wage in Missouri are getting a pay raise as the state's new minimum goes to $6.50 an hour.
In November, voters approved increasing the minimum by $1.35 an hour from $5.15 starting January 1. The new law also includes an automatic adjustment every year to keep up with inflation.
Some businesses say the minimum wage should still be tied to the federal minimum, to keep all states at the same competitive level. Opponents also argue the automatic adjustments may force some businesses to close because of higher labor costs.
