That's according to a new study by researchers in Taiwan which says pregnant women who eat fish more than three times a week could be putting their unborn babies at risk because of higher mercury levels in their blood.A study of 65 pregnant women in Taipei found their mercury levels far exceeded the recommended value of five-point-eight micrograms per liter.
Mercury exposure can damage a baby's internal organs during development and can result in kidney and brain damage.
The FDA advises pregnant women to avoid eating fish with high mercury levels such as shark, swordfish and king mackerel.
