(New York, NY) -- Virgin Mobile USA is taking a page from the auto industry for incentives in a tough economy.
The company has announced that new customers of its monthly service plans will get automatic enrollment in its "Pink Slip Protection" program.
Virgin will waive three months of cellphone fees for people protected by the program who lose their jobs.
There is a small catch.
Those who want to take advantage of the program will have to be eligible for unemployment benefits and be customers for at least two months before they lose their job.
Similar plans have been offered to new Hyundai, Ford and GM customers.
