(Carthage, MO) -- A series of layoffs at a Jasper County fuel plant has the community concerned it may be closing.

The parent company of Renewable Environmental Solutions in Carthage has filed for bankruptcy.  That facility turns agricultural waste into oil.

On Tuesday, 49 employees were laid off, but left in the dark about the company's future.

Butterball has stopped shipping turkey parts to the plant.  In early 2006, neighbors complained about odor problems in the city.

The nearby career center plans to hold an informational meeting Friday morning in Carthage at the Fairview Christian Church for former employees.
