A writing class helps preserve a piece of Springfield history.

The Northview Senior Center writing class put together a book on history of the New Home School.  The project was debuted at a reception on Thursday.

Students got the chance to do research, interview alumni, create press releases and write.  One of the teachers says it was a great experience for the students, who are used to creative writing.  It will also be something this whole community can share.

"I think we need to keep history alive.  These people have a pride in their school.  Here it's 77 years since it was torn down and they're still here thrilled to death to see each other.” says Virginia Thomas, Northview Senior Center writing class instructor.

The New Home School was located in northwest Springfield from 1910 until 1930.
