Wednesday, Nov 26, 2008 @04:07pm CST Thanksgiving is generally a time of feasting, but that's not the case for the less fortunate. Vicki Escarra, President and CEO of Feeding America, says hunger is a nationwide problem. Escarra says the issue is a reality year round for many families and that there's enough food produced in the U.S. to feed the hungry here and in much of the world. She says the problem, often times, is in getting the food distributed to those in need. John Cook, Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Boston University School of Medicine, says hunger in children affects the future of our country. Cook says poverty is at root of hunger and it's gotten worse as unemployment has risen. He says everyone can do something to help because hunger is an issue in every community.
