Thursday, Nov 20, 2008 @04:22pm CST (Washington, DC) -- The Senate has approved another extension of federal unemployment benefits. The House approved it earlier and it now goes to the White House, where President Bush is expected to sign it. The measure was passed on a voice vote without opposition. The measure calls for 20 more weeks of benefits for workers in states with the highest unemployment rates. In an earlier statement, White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said, quote, "Because of the tight job market, the President believes it would be appropriate to further extend unemployment benefits."
