Wednesday, Nov 5, 2008 @04:28am CST (Jefferson City) -- Missouri's streak of picking presidents appears to be over. John McCain leads Barack Obama in the state by about six-thousand votes with all precincts reporting. The last time Missouri voters didn't side with the eventual winner was 1956. Before that, you have to go back to 1900 for the "Show-Me State" to be on the wrong side of the presidential election. A majority of Arkansas voters wanted Republican John McCain as their next president, and though he won the state's electoral votes, he fell far short of winning the contest as Democrat Barack Obama scored a huge victory to become president-elect. As for the state's congressional elections, Mark Pryor won re-election to the U.S. Senate, while Vic Snyder, Mike Ross and John Boozman won another term each in the U.S. House. Marion Berry who ran unopposed will also spend more time on Capitol Hill. (Copyright 2008 by Newsroom Solutions) |
