Seven Missouri businesses pay the price for price gouging during January’s ice storm.  Attorney General Jay Nixon says the businesses, which include hotels, gas stations and hardware stores, will pay a total of $92,754.

Those businesses are Central Power Systems in Springfield, Fastenal in Springfield, the Super 8 Motel on north Kentwood in Springfield, the Days Inn in Ozark, the Battlefield Inn in Springfield, the Dallas County Farmers Exchange in Buffalo and a Days Inn in Joplin.  They will pay restitutions to hundreds of customers who paid too much for hotel rooms, gas cans and portable generators.

"We want to send the signal that when retailers take advantage of a dire situation like this, it is appropriate for the Attorney General's office to investigate and act, which is what we have done and will continue to do" says Nixon.

Nixon’s office looked through more than 400 complaints of price gouging and is still investigating another 12 southwest Missouri businesses.  Five other price gouging lawsuits filed in February are still pending.
