  • Canstruction Contest Kicks off MSU Homecoming
    Reported by: Jeremy Stevens

    Wednesday, Oct 8, 2008 @09:13pm CDT

Dozens of Missouri State University students competed in a building contest Wednesday.

But their construction material was a little "different".

This was the "canstruction" event as part of the university's homecoming festivities. Each team had three hours to build a structure made entirely of canned and boxed food items.

Each of the entries was judged for creativity and all the food from the build was donated to Ozarks Food Harvest.

"Every year during homecoming we do a philanthropy,” says Laura Ethredge. “Since Missouri State has 20,000 student plus we think it's a great avenue to help others. So by having this event during homecoming we had a great participation and students were motivated to be involved because they want to do things with homecoming and with philanthropies."

The 'canstruction' event brought in more than 6,000 cans for donation.
