    Jill Gilardi

Hi everyone, I’m Jill Gilardi, weekend meteorologist for KOLR10 and KSFX News.  You'll also see me reporting in the field, filling in for meteorologist Tom Trtan and Ted Keller and every Tuesday morning on KOLR10 News at 6:30, discussing what’s new in the KOLR10 garden.

I’m not native to Missouri but have worked in the state for more than four years now.  I am originally from Massachusetts and graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Meteorology from Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, Vermont.

I developed an interest for weather when Hurricane Gloria hit the New England Coastline in 1985.  I also wouldn’t doubt if the movie “The Wizard of Oz”  influenced that desire as well.  Over the years, my passion grew for all types of weather and seeing the changes unfold with my own eyes.

I started off my career in Vermont where I delivered the weather for local radio stations.  In 2004 I landed my first job in television at KQTV in St. Joseph, MO.  In 2005, I started working in Springfield and continue to enjoy my time here and the challenges that the weather brings.

When I’m not working, I love spending as much time as possible outdoors and have my camera handy in case I see something beautiful in nature to capture.  My goal for the longest time was to see a tornado and I did that while on my first storm chase on May 30,2008.  I try and stay active by playing sports, running outside or going to the gym.   I love animals, especially my cat Needy who I scooped up along the way while in St. Joseph.  I can’t forget my friends, who are like family to me, since my entire family either lives in southern New Hampshire or Massachusetts.

The weather in southwest Missouri continues to keep me on my toes and I look forward to handling what Mother Nature throws at us next. My goal is to present the weather in an easy to understand and fun manner.  Feel free to email me if you have questions about it or if you’d like me to visit your school.  Thanks for being so welcoming, and for watching KOLR-KSFX!

Thursday's explosion in Springfield brings to mind the need to plan for emergencies. Does your family have an emergency plan and disaster kit?
No, we've been meaning to do it, but haven't
Yes, the ice storms taught us that lesson
I didn't know we needed one
