Saturday, May 17, 2008 @05:35pm CDT We're in the heart of a presidential campaign, but today it was a former presidential candidate making news in Springfield. Former senator and democratic presidential candidate George McGovern spoke to the graduates of Drury University today. The South Dakota native spoke about the need for graduates to give back to this world, especially in light of the ongoing hunger crisis. You may remember that McGovern lost to incumbent Richard Nixon in 1972. Graduates today, tell us McGovern's talking points fit right in with Drury's liberal arts mission. Graduate Drew Kifer says, "It's really just all about helping others that are less fortunate than us, and using what we've learned in order to do that." And graduate Weston Kissee, says, "I'm just excited that the past four years of my life are finally culminating. This has been the best experience of my life, and i'm ready to get out in the real world. I'm going to be a financial adviser for Edward Jones. So i'm ready to get started and out in the real world." In total, Drury confirmed 473 degrees today |
