  • Local Shoppers Battle Crowds for Bargains

    Friday, Nov 27, 2009 @11:43am CST

(Springfield, MO) -- It's Black Friday and that means thousands of dedicated shoppers headed into stores during the early hours this morning to take advantage of the holiday deals.

Jessica Williams joins us live now from Best Buy in Springfield with more on what shoppers are buying and the bargains they might have missed already.
So Jessica is it slowing down any out there?

Jessica - It's not slowed down much.  At 5:00 am there was that big initial rush of people trying to get in here.  But since then, it's still been a pretty steady crowd.  Just to show you what kind of deals people were getting - there are a few items on the Best Buy ad page; a flat screen TV, a camera and laptop, are already gone.  They were gone as of 5 this morning, sold out.  Those are deals you only got if you were camped out here overnight.

Joining me now to give us a taste of what the shopping's been like are Cindy and Paige Huff.  Tell me first where you've been this morning.
Cindy - To Walmart in Lebanon and Marshfield, to Target here in Springfield and now to Best Buy.
Jessica - What time did you start this morning?
    Cindy - 5:30am
Jessica - How was it when you first went out?
Cindy - Crazy - holiday madhouse!

Jessica - Which store was the craziest so far?
Cindy - Target, with police directing traffic and the lines around the back of the store and the items you were wanting were already gone.
Jessica - Describe the atmosphere in Target if you can.
Cindy - Craziness, people looking for the bargain that is already gone, people standing in line and waiting, looking at their ads and seeing what other bargains they can get.
Jessica - I heard the lines were all the way to the back of the store
Cindy -  It is.  All the way to the back of the store and then some. We left.  We didn't think the bargains were all that good.

Jessica - What bargains are you shopping for?
Cindy - The Wii, and some clothes bargains.  I have two girls.
Jessica - Why would you tell people it is worth it to come out today to get the deals?
Cindy - There are some deals, you know - $20-30 off some items. So it's worth it if you are looking for those items if you get them when they're cheaper.

Jessica to Paige - So are you getting any Christmas gifts, or what made you want to come with your mom?
Paige - Just to get stuff for me.
Cindy - An mp3 player and the Wii, she's wanting for, and clothes.
Jessica - Where are you going from here?
Cindy - The mall.  We're braving the mall.

Jessica - Thanks for talking for us.  There are still things you can find here.  The Best Buy manager says this store was very well stocked.  So there is a lot of stuff you can still get here,  but there is also a very long line and it's hard to find a parking spot in many places.
