Reported by: Dan Lucy Tuesday, Nov 24, 2009 @08:00pm CST There is no better baseball player in the National League than St. Louis Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols.
And the first baseman has the hardware to prove it. The Baseball Writers of America unanimously named Pujols their 2009 National League Most Valuable Player. This is the second straight year and third time in the last five seasons that Pujols has won the MVP Award. It's the first time for a unanimous vote since Barry Bonds won in 2002. Albert Pujols hit .327 with 135 runs batted in, and he led the majors with 47 home runs and 124 runs scored. Pujols joins Stan Musial as St. Louis Cardinals who have won three MVP awards. Albert Pujols/3- Time MVP:"It's really emotional. Just that joy and waiting for that moment. I said it last year, it's almost like kids who are getting ready to go to bed and can't wait until the next day for Christmas. That's how it was really special. And it doesn't make any difference if it was my first one in 2005 and now. It was the same moment and same feeling. It was really, really special." Albert Pujols is in good company ten major league players have won three or more MVP's, Barry Bonds has the most with seven. Pujols joins Musial, Joe DiMaggio and six other players with triple MVP's. |
