Tuesday, Nov 24, 2009 @07:33am CST (Washington, DC) -- A series of potentially embarrassing e-mails exchanged by climate scientists may provide some ammunition for people who question global warming. The e-mails were stolen from a British university and show scientists were allegedly engaged in an ongoing effort to suppress data showing how humans affect climate change. The messages, some of them written more than a decade ago, run the gamut from nasty commentary by global warming researchers about climate skeptics, to exchanges offering suggestions for presentations that make global warming look convincing. In one message, Kevin Trenberth, a climatologist with the National Center for Atmospheric Research, wrote, quote, "The fact is that we can't account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can't." Already dubbed "Climategate," the reports aren't expected to prevent a meeting of world leaders next month from coming to agreement on control of greenhouse gasses.
