Tuesday, Nov 24, 2009 @04:22am CST (Mansfield, MO) -- Students in Mansfield, Missouri will not have class today. School is cancelled because of low attendance after parents started taking their kids out of class because of a meningitis scare. The Wright County coroner says a two-year-old died from bacterial meningitis over the weekend weekend. That's in addition to the two cases confirmed by the county's health department. The state Health Department says doctors diagnosed one student from Mansfield schools with bacterial meningitis. A second case involves a woman. The state says she has several children who where tested as a precaution. The superintendent of the district says the schools will continue normal cleaning and sanitizing. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the disease spreads by close contact such as kissing, coughing and sneezing. However, it does not spread as easily as the common cold. |
