  • "Twilight" Sequel Sets New Opening Day Record

    Saturday, Nov 21, 2009 @03:24pm CST

(Los Angeles, CA) -- "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" has smashed the record for a single-day opening at the box office.
According to preliminary data released Saturday, the vampire romance sequel is on track to score one of the biggest
    weekend totals of all time.

The film earned 72-point-seven-million-dollars in the U.S. and Canada Friday, including a record-breaking midnight sales of just over 26-million-dollars.

Industry observers say they expect "New Moon" to finish with upwards of 125-million-dollars in sales for the weekend after Saturday and Sunday data estimates are issued early Sunday.

The previous record for a single-day opening was 62-point-two million, held by last year's "Batman" sequel, "The Dark Knight." It went on to become one of the biggest grossing movie of all time in North America.
