Reported by: Jennifer Denman Friday, Nov 20, 2009 @08:53pm CST When you look at the damage from the house explosion it is a miracle no one was killed.
KOLR/KSFX did find one family who took their kids to the hospital after the explosion. "It was like we were in the middle of a tornado, stuff was flying at you and we were shaking," explains Lodema Filbeck, a Springfield resident. She didn't know what to think as she drove her kids home from school Thursday afternoon in a red maroon van. She took a short cut and it quickly became a long scary afternoon. "Me and my son didn't know what to do. We just grabbed the girls and got em down," adds Filbeck. "He was on top of me and protected me," explains Kristen Holt, Lodema's nine-year old daughter. "I looked out the window and saw stuff flying at us and heard a big pow and it looked like there were flames on the side," adds Dillion Filbeck, Kristen's 14-year-old brother. The family drove right in front of the house, in the middle of a natural gas explosion. "It scared me," adds Kristen. The kids were complaining of neck injuries and ringing in their ears so mom thought it best to take the kids to the hospital to get checked out. "They took x-rays of me and my son we are fine they said to use ibuprofen, we'll keep checking our ears," adds Lodema Filbeck. "My neck hurts head hurts pretty bad," explains Dillion Filbeck. But some bumps and a few pains aren't getting the better of this family as they realize how lucky they are and thankful they are to have each other. That family's sentiment is also the sentiment of many community members KOLR/KSFX talked to today. It is very sad that so many people are without homes but they are grateful that they are ok. |
