Friday, Nov 20, 2009 @08:40pm CST There's good news for students attending Missouri's Community Colleges.
Today, Governor Jay Nixon and presidents of the state's community colleges announced a freeze on tuition and fees for in-state students for the coming school year. In exchange for not raising tuition, the Governor agreed to keep state funding for the community colleges at about 95% of current levels. But this agreement is not set in stone. "The governor has said that he is recommending no more than a 5% cut. And, in return, then we are recommending we not raise tuition. But everyone recognizes that if the cut is larger than 5.2%, then we will be raising tuition and the governor understands that, too." Today's agreement is subject to approval by the state legislature and the schools' governing boards. This announcement is similar to one earlier this week freezing tuition and fees at the state's public four-year colleges. |
