Thursday, Nov 19, 2009 @05:20pm CST (Springfield, MO) Drury University continued its convocation series on spirituality and justice today by talking about sex and the bible. Associate Professor of Religion Dr. Teresa Hornsby spoke on how to better understand biblical ideas about sexuality in our everyday lives. Attendees were encouraged to bring their bibles as passages were read and discussed in an open dialogue. Dr. Hornsby says morals and sex really haven't changed much since biblical times. "Things haven't changed that much because people are people. And so, sexual acts I don't think we've invented anything new. I think people have always done the same things, right or wrong, since human beings have been made. But cultures are different and even today we can see the differences in cultures," explains Dr. Teresa Hornsby. Doctor Hornsby suggests people gather as many bibles as they can in different versions and compare the same passages and see how many different ways the bible has been interpreted by different cultures and languages over the years. |
