Thursday, Nov 19, 2009 @06:10am CST (Iowa City, IA) -- More than half of Americans believe health care reform will do more harm than good. That's one finding in a newly released University of Iowa Hawkeye Poll. The national survey found 52-percent of respondents believe health care reform will be harmful while 48-percent support change. The pollsters say 52-percent of Americans also say they disapprove of President Obama's performance in office, just 38-percent approve. University of Iowa political scientists say those figures tend to break along age lines. Young adults, those between the ages of 18 and 35, indicate they're happy with the way Obama is handling the job. Those aged 36 to 54 are least pleased. There's a definite partisan split on the health care question. Government action to modify the health care system in the U.S. is preferred by 54-percent of Democrats but only 40-percent of Republicans. The poll, taken between October 23rd and 31st also discovered women are far more enthused about health care reform than men. Nearly 58-percent of women welcome change, compared to just 41-percent of men. The margin of error in this survey of 772 Americans has a margin of error of plus or minus three-and-a-half-percent.
