(Boston, MA)  --  The American Geriatric Society wants medical schools to make the health care of seniors a core part of medical education.

   The society, which met in Boston last week for its national conference, wants geriatric care to be added to the rotations done by med students in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology.

   According to a report from the Institute of Medicine, less than one-percent of the faculty responsible for teaching future doctors are experts in geriatrics.

   However, the first of 78-million baby boomers are nearing retirement age and the numbers seem to indicate a greater need.
