Reported by: Jeremy Stevens Wednesday, Nov 11, 2009 @07:12pm CST As we pay tribute to our men and women in uniform today, thousand of troops are still unsure of their future mission.
Today the President and Vice President held another high level White House meeting on the way forward in Afghanistan. The President has spent weeks assessing the way forward in the eight year Afghan war. He is thought to be close to a decision. Meantime, the White House is batting down speculation that the President has already agreed to send tens of thousands of additional troops to Afghanistan. Congressman Roy Blunt says the troops and our allies need a decision soon. "The generals need to know what the mission is. The soldiers need to know what the mission is. The American people need to know what the mission is. And you know the President for well over a year before he was elected and most of the time since he's been elected said that's the war of necessity." Spokesman Robert Gibbs said the President has narrowed the options he is considering but insisted that a decision hasn't been made. |
