Thursday, Nov 12, 2009 @05:23am CST (Springfield, MO) --(Springfield, MO) -- MoDOT hosts a meeting today for property owners along Highway 65 in east Springfield - where a study says sound barriers may be needed. The project is widening Highway 65 between I-44 and James River Freeway, adding one lane in each direction, making it a six-lane highway. The noise study is part of the federal study on the impact of the 6-lane road. Today, MoDOT will hold an open house meeting for people who live along Highway 65, to point out where the seven areas are which meet sound wall criteria. Noise levels must be lowered at least 5 decibels, MoDOT officials say, and property owners in those areas must vote on whether they want a wall. A news release Monday from MoDOT said a majority of people in each of those areas will determine whether walls are constructed. Notices are being mailed to those property owners, with ballots also being mailed in about a month. The open house to explain the criteria for walls and a map of the seven locations, will be held from 3:00-7:00 pm today, November 12, at High Street Baptist Church. Watch a MoDOT video below which explains the criteria for sound walls and shows different styles. You can also download information about sound walls here (.pdf) |
