Sunday, Nov 8, 2009 @02:46pm CST (Washington, DC) -- President Obama is praising lawmakers in the House for passing a healthcare reform measure. The vote came late last night, largely along party lines.
Obama called it a historic vote and said it's up to the Senate to, quote, "bring this effort to the finish line." He said when he signs the measure into law, he expects the lawmakers who supported it will reflect upon it and say it's their finest moment in public service. Obama stressed that millions of families will benefit from the bill. He said it will enable small businesses to get health insurance for their employees, bring down the cost of healthcare and provide security and stability to those who already have insurance. The House bill includes provisions for a government-run "public option," designed to boost competition and curb soaring healthcare costs. It would bar health insurance companies from denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions. (Copyright 2009 by VERTEXNews/Newsroom Solutions) |
