Saturday, Nov 7, 2009 @05:51pm CST (Branson, MO) A new memorial in Branson stands in honor of veterans. The Blue Star Memorial was dedicated at the Branson Fish Hatchery, Saturday. The Blue Star Service banner started in World War II as a way to honor soldiers serving on the front lines. After the war, large bronze plaques started showing up on highways to honor those serving and who died for our country. The Missouri Department of Conservation says it is proud to offer this memorial for veterans and loves seeing the people who visit it. "They are touched it's nice they come and take photographs of it. They also come back and tell us some of the stories of friends and family that have served with them. Its just fascinating to see all the different people and to hear the stories of what they did during the war. We also get to honor them, it really touches their hearts," explains John Miller, Program Supervisor with the Missouri Department of Conservation. This memorial is the first of its kind in Branson. |
