Reported by: Dan Lucy Friday, Nov 6, 2009 @10:16pm CST Drury soccer has never had a season like this one.
The Panthers are 18-1, ranked third in the national division two poll, and conference champions. Friday night Drury opened up the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament on their home pitch. Drury coach Ryan Shaw is the GLVC's coach of the year. And the Panthers were attacking early, Ben Nabers with the pass to Micah Whorton, but the Bellarmine keeper crashes into Whorton, you can't do that. Drury with a penalty kick, Ben Taylor with the left footed boot, bounces off the post, still 0-0. Later Drury with a corner kick, again the Knight's keeper and Whorton meet again in a collision, the ball's cleared. Drury needed overtime but beat Bellarmine 3-2 on a Steve Wilczewski goal. The Panthers will play Northern Kentucky in Sunday's tournament championship game. |
