Thursday, Nov 5, 2009 @10:41am CST (Washington, DC) -- A Senate committee has approved a Democrat-sponsored climate change bill. The Environment and Public Works Committee approved the bill that requires industry to cut carbon dioxide emissions and other greenhouse gases by 20-percent from 2005 levels. Under the measure, those cuts would have to be made by 2020. Ten Democrats voted to approve the legislation with Montana's Max Baucus voting against it. Republicans boycotted the committee's work, saying more analysis of the legislation was needed. The bill is one of several initiatives aimed at attacking global warming. Massachusetts Senator John Kerry and some Republicans are crafting a compromise bill, which will probably not be voted on by the full Senate until sometime next year.
