Wednesday, Nov 4, 2009 @09:14am CST (Jefferson City, MO) -- Yoga instructors in Missouri say a new, 4-percent sales tax on their businesses is too much of a stretch. Missouri is the only state to enforce a sales tax on yoga. It's a move born out of attempts to find new sources of revenue. Missouri Department of Revenue officials argue that fitness clubs are really for recreation and fees paid to them should be taxable. Yoga teachers got bent out of shape, saying they're providing physical preparation for meditation. |
