Tuesday, Nov 3, 2009 @07:24am CST (St. Louis) -- Washington University Chancellor Mark Wrighton talked about how the United States must boost energy efficiency by 15 percent during a forum Monday at the university. Wrighton was vice-chairman of the committee that wrote a report called "America's Energy Future: Challenges and Opportunities," which was discussed at the symposium, which the International Center for Advanced Renewable Energy and Sustainability hosted. The report also shows the nation's power grid could be totally updated and expanded in 20 years, the nation will keep depending on oil as a main transportation fuel through 2035 and more money should be invested in research and development. Wrighton said there are many options in supplying energy needs, including nuclear and coal. (Copyright 2009 by VERTEXNews/Newsroom Solutions) |
