  • John Daly is Hands-on With Branson Golf Course
    Reported by: Rob Evans

We're in Branson with professional golfer John Daly at his Murder Rock Golf Course.

Rob - How have you been?

John -I'm doing good - letting the rib heal. It's good to back and see my course.

Rob - Yeah, you just had surgery. How did that go?

John - Good - I can see the club out of my left on my backswing again, which I haven't been able to do for about a year.

Rob - Talk about this course. It's beautiful.

John - It's good. I went out yesterday and played and added 400 yards to the course. We're going to add more bunkers for the regular players who need more bunkers. It's a great course.

John agrees to go one on one with me for a hole. Off the back tees, shoeless and shirtless, with cigarette in mouth, Daly crushed his three wood down the left-side of the fairway - which made me extra nervous.

John - I shot a 94 yesterday, first time I played all year.

And before I could even tee off, he started razzing me about my shoes.
John - Where'd you get those shoes, NYC?

Rob - You don't like my Pumas?

At least I was wearing shoes. The drive of my life got me within 30 yards of John's three-wood.

The pressure was getting to him.

Rob - Are you getting nervous?

John - Do I look nervous? 130, oh this could be nice.

An easy wedge left John with a long putt.

My eight-iron got caught in the wind, and land a bit short. Another chance for Daly to have some fun at my expense.

John - Take two weeks off and quit

Since I could tell he was about to crack under pressure, we took some time to chat.

Rob - What is it like being a rock star of golf?

John - I like to have fun, injuries have hurt my game, but don't underestimate the fat man. When you have fun, rumors spread. But I love this place, Glenn's a great guy, this is an awesome place.

Rob - If you could do one thing - be a rock star or play golf...?

John - Golf, I like to work during the day. It'd be fun to be a rock star, but I love golf too much.

His playing partner on this day really was a rock star, country singer Johnny Lee.

Johnny Lee -I don't play against him, I play a scramble with him. It's fun playing with JD, we've been buddies for a long time.

Back to the action. And after just missing his long putt for birdie, I missed my par putt. John got a par, I finished with a tap-in bogey.
