The Missouri Department of Transportation has installed a texting ban of its own.

As of November 1st, MODOT employees cannot text while operating department vehicles and equipment.

The rule also applies to texting while driving a personal vehicle while performing department business.

A state law already bans anyone under 21 from texting and driving.

MODOT says penalties depend on the facts of the incident or whether an employee has been reprimanded before.
