The film sold an estimated 101-million-dollars worldwide in ticket sales in its first five days, but just 32-point-five million in the U.S. and Canada.
The movie had been predicted to earn at least 40 million in those two countries.Columbia Pictures had hoped the movie would bring in between 30 and 40-million, meaning it met the studio expectations. For the three day weekend period starting Friday, "This Is It" earned 21-point-three million in North America. The movie documented Jackson's rehearsals for a comeback series of concerts in London. The shows never happened due to the singer's death in June at the age of 50. The number two movie was last weekend's top grosser "Paranormal Activity." The horror movie earned 16-point-five million dollars. "Law Abiding Citizen" was third, followed by "Couples Retreat" in fourth and "Saw VI" in fifth.
