Reported by: Sonya Kullmann Wednesday, Oct 28, 2009 @06:29am CDT If you're keeping on top of the stock markets this morning...Wednesday, October 28, 2009... The Nikkei continues to slide, losing another 137 points today. The Dow gained 14 points Tuesday. And the Nasdaq unloaded 26. The highest ranking female executive at Anheuser-Busch is suing the beer-maker for discrimination. Francine Katz, AB's former Vice President of Communications and Consumer Affairs, filed a suit Monday. It alleges she was paid less than half the salary received by her male predecessor in the same position. Katz further charges the brewers encourage a "frat party" atmosphere where women are excluded from informal social gatherings. AB released a statement saying it believes Katz was treated fairly and that its policies specifically prohibit discrimination Auto workers across the nation are keeping their eyes on the Ford Claycomo plant. That's after UAW Local 249 members voted not to accept contract concessions. The union president says there were good reasons. Part of the concessions would have included a five-year prohibition on being able to strike. Concerns on the Claycomo SUV line have workers considering that possibility. Good news may be on the way for those collecting unemployment. President Obama is pushing congress to provide additional weeks of unemployment benefits to help those affected by the economic downturn. The House has approved the bill but it has stalled in the Senate. Some Republicans are opposing the bill, concerned with how to fund it. |
